AMBITIOUS Linnets boss Keith Webb has promised fans two more big signings as the club bid for a second successive promotion from the Conference North next season.
Webb revealed that he still has money available in his budget to bring in more new faces following the high-profile arrival of Julian Joachim, whose signing on Tuesday cemented the start of a new era for the club.

Joachim was unveiled to the local media at a press conference and Webb said: "There's still room to bring in more quality players and I'm looking to strengthen the squad in a couple of areas.

"We haven't gone out and paid stupid money for Julian, we've kept it within the budget and I'm delighted to get him for the price we did.

"It's not often you get the opportunity to have a former Premier League player in your squad and Julian ticks all the right boxes of what we want at this football club.

"We're building a nice squad for Julian to join and with his assets, he'll just add to it more.

"We've got players who have done bits in the Football League. I think Julian's quality will compliment the ability that we've already got in the squad."

Webb added: "I spoke to Dion Dublin, who Julian played with at Aston Villa and Coventry, and he spoke very highly of him.

"I've also spoken to managers who have worked with him and everyone has spoken highly of him."

Joachim's arrival has stunned many people and Linnets chairman Ken Bobbins hailed the signing of the striker, saying: "This is a momentous occassion for Lynn FC and the fact that Julian has decided to sign for us is absolutely magnificent.

"This is as big as it gets. It's arguably, if not, the biggest signing the club has ever made.

"It's not very often you get the opportunity to sign someone of Julian's undoubted ability and skill, it's great for the club."

Boston-based Joachim admitted he turned down offers to stay in the Football League after a glittering 16-year career as a professional, which started as a trainee with Leicester City back in 1992.

Joachim, who played with Lynn's Steve Melton at Boston United, said: "First and foremost I was looking to try to get back closer to home.

"I had two or three offers from clubs in the Football League, but I was just being patient and waiting. Everything sounded good about Lynn FC."

On his fitness, Joachim said: "I've had a couple of long, hard seasons so it will probably do me the world of good.

"I'll train myself just to keep ticking over, but I think it will be good for my body just to ease down on the day-to-day training."

Joachim, who notched more than 60 goals in the top flight of English football for Leicester, Aston Villa and Coventry, has set his sights high.

"I hope I can come in and get them to the next level," said Joachim.

"That's what it's all about when you go to a club. It doesn't matter what division it is.

"It's about winning things or helping sides get promoted. I met the manager once and he told me what he wants to achieve here. I know there is a good set of lads as well so I can't wait to get started."

The Peterborough-born frontman knows he will be a marked man in the Conference North next season.

Joachim said: "I'm not worried if defenders see me as a scalp, that's all part of the game. Pace is probably my biggest asset but I've always scored goals wherever I have played.

"You've got to be confident in your own ability and that is something I've never had a problem with.

"I prefer to play down the middle but at Darlington last year I played something like 46 or 47 games and the majority of those were on the right side of midfield."

Lynn, meanwhile, have been handed an away start for their first-ever season in the Conference North.

The fixture list has handed Lynn a long trip to Burscough on Saturday, August 9. See page 111 of today's paper for the full list of fixtures.
